There is an important difference between not knowing and choosing not to look. For decades we built cities, buildings and ways of life on the tacit conviction that the system would keep working indefinitely. That conviction was not the result of analysis — it was the result of comfort. The system worked, and while it works no one has an incentive to ask what would happen if it stopped. The incentive always appears too late. And when it appears, the buildings are already built. The cities already have their form. The dependencies are already embedded in the concrete, in the pipes, in the square meters that produce nothing and cannot sustain themselves.

Autónoma starts from a different conviction: raising our gaze is a responsibility. Not a philosophical option for those who have time to think, but a concrete obligation of those who design the environment we live in. A building constructed today will inhabit the world of 2080, of 2100. No architect, no developer, no State can know with certainty what climatic, energy or geopolitical conditions will define that world. What can be known is that designing while assuming the perpetual stability of the current model is a bet that history does not endorse. It never did.
